November Newsletter
Grade 1
St. Luke School
Dear Parents,
It is wonderful to hear the children speak more and more French every day and take such joy in singing the songs and participating in the oral activities. They are already using several strategies to decode new words and show reading comprehension. Bravo les amis!
The theme in November is« Les fruits et les légumes » (fruits and vegetables). They children will learn and use new vocabulary in a variety of oral activities (songs, poems, guessing games: who am I?)
You will find a list of fruits and vegetables, songs and words related to the sounds « r » and « m ».
We will continue discussing, developing and practicing different reading strategies (looking at visual, recognizing the sounds, reading syllables) in order to be able to read new words and simple sentences.
Soon, your child will bring home a new reading duo-tang introducing different sounds, syllables, words, sentences. Please read with your child on a regular basis in order to develop their reading skills. Also, I hope you will enjoy looking at, sharing and reading French library books. Your child is encouraged to recognize familiar sounds, syllables and words and spend time familiarizing themselves with the book. It is important that their first experience in reading in French is fun and positive!
We will be using different structures when speaking French such as : Je mange......Je bois......Mon fruit préféré est.......Mon légume préféré est.......Je suis.......Qui suis-je? (who am I?.... to describe a fruit or a vegetable..... using colors and shapes). The children will reinforce these language structures in a variety of oral and written activities.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support and cooperation.
Sincerely,
Marie Tanguay
