French, Grade 3
In February, we will explore the theme about “My Favorite Heroes” where we will read, sing, discuss, write and make short presentations about people that are special to us, “our heroes”. The children will be invited and encouraged to participate actively in different oral activities related to the theme. It will be very interesting to develop this theme, to learn a little more about each child and to give them a chance to share with their classmates.
During this theme, we will also review and reinforce “adjectives” especially when we are describing people. Also, we are continuing to study the “masculin” and “féminin” form and to apply this concept in different written activities.
In reading, the stories in the French reader are: “ Un mystère pour Martin” p.30-31 and “Un homme extraordinaire” p.35. We will also read and sing the song “Les Superhéros”.
In Social Studies, we will continue to study our theme on Pioneers. The students really enjoy working on their projects in class. We are also continuing to apply new vocabulary in different oral and written activities and talk about how these people started to build and develop their own communities (work on the farm......services at the village).
Thank you for your continued cooperation.
The month of January has gone by quickly, as we have been quite busy in French and already it is February and Valentine time. We will take some time to discuss « Friendship » and ways to show our family and friends that we care and love them. We will learn a song and a poem and we will make a card for a « secret » friend.
In Social Studies, we are continuing to explore the theme « Community Helpers », discussing about how these people are helping us in our neighborhoods. Also we will recognize and identify buildings related to people's work .
We are now learning to count to 100 and I encouraged the children to practice counting at home using the number chart in the French duo-tang.
The children enjoy bringing home their French books. They are welcomed to take all the time they need to read their book or change it during class every day.
Thank you very much for your continued cooperation. It is so important to support the children in their learning of the French language and to encourage them to share what they are learning in the French class with you.
